VIRO was asked by Shell Global Solutions International to perform various engineering works in connection with the upgrade of a Cat Cracker belonging to PDVSA in Cardon Venezuela (former Shell refinery). As a result of the upgrade, the capacity of the Cat Cracker was increased from 11000 t/d to 12850 t/d. The processing plant uses a catalyst to process crude oil into products with lower hydrocarbon levels or products with better properties.
The work consisted of basic and detailed engineering carried out by the Plant Design, Electrical & Instrumentation, and Industrial Automation departments. The finite element (FEM) calculations were carried out by Engineering Analysis. Engineering Analysis also provided support for the construction management in Venezuela.
