As of now, VIRO can perform Arc Flash Study’s according 1584-2018 – IEEE (Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations), using ETAP 21.0.0 electrical network simulation software.
The aim of an Arc Flash Study is to determine the energy released by an arc in the switchboard and consequently the required PPE (according to NFPA 70E 2012 to 2021) that must be worn by personnel working on the switchboard.
In the event of an arc personnel working on the equipment are exposed to energy released by the arc. This energy is called Incident Energy. Incident Energy is therefore a measure of the thermal energy experienced at a working distance from an arc flash. The unit of Incident Energy is cal/cm2.
We’ve noticed a lot of companies don’t yet possess the knowledge and experience to deal with Arc Flash Studies. And yet this is vital to keeping our electrical workers, and environments, safe and sound.
