VDL Bus & Coach consists of multiple bus companies that are jointly active on the world market. The core activities are development, production, sales and after-sales service of a wide range of buses and chassis modules. The activities also include buying and selling second-hand buses.
Within Product Engineering at VIRO, the Mechanical Engineering department participated in the development of various types of buses by making 2D drawings and 3D CAD models. Engineering Analysis was asked to assess the developed structures for strength, rigidity, and fatigue through FEM calculations. The use of macros makes it possible to first perform partial analyses of specific parts, after which the complete bus can be automatically assembled and calculated.
